As the name indicates, this DVD shows various toy trains in action. These are the types of toy trains that grownup train enthusiasts would have in their basement. The narration is not interesting and they tend to repeat a lot of the video. They also tend to show a lot of the accessories to toy train sets such as automated log loaders and drum unloaders, etc. They especially like to show when these things don’t work and they also show a lot of toy trains falling off of tracks and bridges.

Our four-year-old really loves trains and he likes this DVD, but it’s not the train DVD that he asks for. Overall, our son likes to watch real, full-size trains instead of the toy trains. The train DVDs that our son likes better are “Real Wheels – There Goes a Train” and “Alphabet Train”. He likes There goes a Train the best. It is narrated by “Engineer Dave” who goes over things like how trains work, and the different types of trains, etc.

My 2-1/2 year old son LOVES this DVD, and all of the others as well. I can actually enjoy it myself, as it can be mesmerizing. However, what I don’t enjoy about this video, compared to the other volumes, is the kid that narrates it. He talks way too much and it’s just irritating. I hope this companys’ future videos leaves out the kid!

I agree completely with the previous reviewer. This game had so much potential. The puzzles are fun and there is a pretty good variety of Lionel trains to choose from. Even the music is surprisingly well done. However, it’s all wasted because the graphics are so poor and the detail non-existent when it counts. One camera angle only and most of the game is in 2-D, especially when the trains are running. After you make your choice of trains to run, the detail degrades so badly you realize it never mattered which train you chose anyway. Everything looks about the same and very unrealistic at that. Don’t be fooled by the Lionel name. This game is a dud…

I bought Lionel Trains: On Track for my son. I played it for ten minutes and knew he wouldn’t care for it. The graphics of the trains weren’t great, and game play was slow. Hard to understand the graphic icons and just… You get the picture I am sure if they had more detail on the game play I would have never bought this game.

Plenty to see, lots of location shooting, big action for tykes interested in moving machines. This movie has it all: trains, more trains, information, and action! We see antique steam engines, diesel freight trains, Amtrak passenger trains, and roundhouses.”Engineer” Dave shows us what the conductors, brakemen, and service attendants do. But he is a day-dreamer and doesn’t listen to directions, then goofs up on the job. It’s very silly and cute. In the end, he saves the day by stopping the train before it hits a car stuck on the tracks.The Amtrak portion of the video is so well done, it almost ran like an infomercial for Amtrak. I wanted to go on a train after watching it with my 2-year old.It’s perfect for any preschooler who’s interested in trains.

My 2 year old son (and I) are great fans of the ‘There goes a…’ video series. There Goes a Train was his first video and is still one of his favorites.In the video, the host ‘Dave’ gets to play at being an engineer, brakeman, conductor etc. and ends up daydreaming and goofing up his assignments. Having purchased five tapes in the ‘There Goes a …’ series, the videos are entertaining and educational with simple explantations about how things (trains) work. My 2 year old son is still captivated by the video after having watched it dozens of times. The 30 minute video has a number of different mini-storylines and never seems to get boring, even for adults.

My 4 year old son just loves this CD and he also loves the series of ‘I Love Toy Trains’ movies. He listens to this all the time. Not only when he is playing with his wooden toy trains, but also in the car. I even find myself singing the songs during the day, and I don’t even know what is currently playing on the radio! This is an absolute must have for anyone who liked or loved the movies. A great gift!

My four-year-old son is a Thomas freak. He also loves the computer–websites, computer games etc–so to think he would enjoy this was a no-brainer.

The video quality is great. It runs well on my Vista computer (without hanging up). He loves the different activities, and watching the story as it goes along through them.

The child can pick their favorite engine to drive the story (Thomas, Percy or James, I think).

We love this dvd as well as #4-5-6. These series are great for kids who love trains or things with wheels in general, and I think they’re entertaining for adults as well. Love the commentary (learn a lot!) and love the music! My kids watch them over and over.
