This train is big and colorful. It is based on the Bachmann Big Hauler series of trains, whose slogan used to be “Any bigger and you’d have to buy a ticket.” In spite of the Christmas lettering, the locomotive pulling this train is an accurate model of a Baldwin locomotive that ran on many American railroads between 70 and 140 years ago.

The Bachmann company provides excellent service and a wide range of accessories. This train is also made to run outside if you want, but the track isn’t.

This is great for the Christmas tree. Quality is good, very sturdy. I run it around the Christmas tree in the Winter, and it never gets stuck on pine Needles (it doesn’t pick them up at all). Easy to set up, and able to withstand my two year old poking it in excitement, or driving it stop/go/stop style. I like the looks. Would recommend to anybody looking for a big train to use at Christmas time. Size is perfect.

It could use a couple of extra straight track pieces, but you can buy them on Amazon for a minimal price.

Bachmann Trains Mountaineer Ready-to-Run Large Scale Train Set

Beginning construction in the mountains of post–Civil War Tennessee, the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad Company was known locally as the “Eat Taters and Wear No Clothes” railroad. Narrow gauge operations began in 1881, and after nearly 60 years of operation, developing interstate highway systems and the torrential rains of 1940 worked to bring about the railroad’s demise. Following a series of purchases and acquisitions (singing cowboy Gene Autry once owned an ET & WNC locomotive), the railroad was resurrected in 1956, going on to become one of North Carolina’s favorite travel attractions.
